CHICAGO — He's a part of one of Chicago's most famous families along with ours here at Channel 9. Jarrett Payton, who has been a sports anchor at the station since 2015, has a few reasons why working at WGN-TV means so much more to him. He's no stranger to Chicago or the station, having been in the spotlight his whole life as the son of Bears' legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Walter Payton. (WBTW) - Five people have died following a small plane crash in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Sunday, according to authorities.In a report obtained by Nexstar's WBTW Monday, officials said four people had been killed and one seriously injured. The Horry County Coroner's Office said Monday afternoon that the injured victim died after being taken to the hospital.It isn't yet clear what caused the Sunday morning crash, which happened northwest of the Grand Stand Airport, a report from the Federal Aviation Administration reads. The FAA previously said four people were aboard the plane.The plane took off at 11:02 a.m. and crashed a minute later, according to flight tracking site FlightAware. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- South by Southwest Conference & Festivals launched its artists showcase application for the 2024 event series last week, and the application features some pay bumps for selected artists.The 2024 showcase application launched June 27. As part of it, SXSW officials said domestic acts are eligible for monetary compensation in place of artist credentials, which offer access to certain SXSW features. Next year, eligible bands that opt for pay will receive $350, while solo artists will earn $150. If anyone knows what a Stanley Cup contender looks like, it’s Pat Maroon. He has hoisted the NHL’s most coveted hardware once with the St. Louis Blues and twice with the Tampa Bay Lightning in his professional career. MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office has release the identities of the individuals involved in the fatal crash in Malta on Friday afternoon. Police says the motorcyclist who passed away was identified as Anthony J. Mack, 45, of Saratoga Springs. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 9 and Cherry Coke Road. Mack was taken to the Saratoga Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. ST. LOUIS -- Police are asking for the public's help to identify a man accused of using a gun to steal a pack of cigarettes.The man went into the Phillips 66 located at the intersection of Jefferson and Gravois at around 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, and asked for a pack of cigarettes. When the clerk told the man the price he took out a small pistol and several dollars from his cross-body bag. The man the placed the money on the counter. Ameren customers still without power in Missouri and Illinois after weekend storms The clerk told the man that he did not leave enough money, according to St. Louis Police. The man gestured with his gun and told the clerk that the money on the counter was all he had and left.The clerk later told his manager about the incident. LAKE COUNTY, Ill. — A man is in critical condition after a firework exploded on his face Sunday night in unincorporated Cary.At around 9:15 p.m., authorities responded to a residence in the 24400 block of Hickory Nut Grove Road on the report of a person seriously injured by a firework.Officers arrived and found a 58-year-old man in and out of consciousness.Police believe the man was detonating numerous commercial-rated fireworks for a party.At some point, a firework did not discharge as expected after it was lit. Police said the man looked into the tube and the firework discharged, striking and exploding on contact with his face.The man sustained major injuries to the head and became unconscious. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition.
